Rescue from lead mountain

I have decided to rescue a couple of old projects from the lead mountain, both these are self contained and other club members at Wyvern Wargamers have opposing forces or associated figures.

First up is my Baccus 6mm Confederate army. Looking at the figures again with a critical eye, the problem was the black undercoating and the need to add some variation to the figures. I know if I'd chosen Union then they would have been painted very quickly.

The Zouave units and skirmishers are finished and I've started moving the others forward. Initially rules will be 'Black Powder' and a 'Guns to Gettyburg', I quite fancy looking at 'Longstreet' but it looks expensive as both players also need the card decks and the rulebook is sized like a paperback novel.

Next up, from MoFo / Gripping Beast are the 'Black Hawk Down' figures, I've Africans as well as Seals and Rangers. Basically this project just ran out of steam even though we've talked at the club of about a big all day type game.

The recent Kickstarter from Spectre Miniatures has raised the profile of the topic, Stu from Wyvern has made a pledge as well as digging in to his own lead mountain, producing some more forces which have already appeared on his Dust, Dice and Tears blog. If anyone has a lead on some cheap toy hummers please let me know.

Triples 2014

Just back from Triples in Sheffield, here's a run down of the loot.

From Foundry the Dallimore Master Class painting book and the Near Eastian Flesh set for my Sinbad project along with a pack of Cyclopes and Medusa and the Gorgons.

Landser Books German Army Grenadier 44-45, this is similar to a larger format Osprey but with tons more colour plates and detail. Recommended. If you are interested in this Dave Thomas has it in stock.

The Legend of Dead Man's Hand brings new factions to the rules as well as a campaign system allowing you to progress your gang of desperadoes. More on this when we play again.

I've been painting some metal Warlord US Marines, I have enjoyed painting these and managed to pick up a very competitively priced plastic set.

Last a selection of Vallejo paints including a fetching shade of pink for my French Dragoons.

Don't tell him your name, Pike!

First up here are some Artizan Designs UBoat crew I picked up on eBay cheaply, these are going to be for Pulp style games or perhaps in a WW2 skirmish terrorising a sea side town. There's loads of great figures in their Thrilling Tales range.

Next up are some weird war Germans, these will be used as Vampires or Half Bloods in Crooked Dice's Vlads Army. Figures are West Wind zombies with Mantic ghoul heads.

The bat swarms are more Bones from Reaper, a quick and easy paint job.

The postman brought me a massive package today, opening it up I found my long awaited Reaper "Legend of the Sands" boxed set. I really wasn't expecting the figures to come in a carry case, this must make shipping a nightmare. This rounds off the humans for my 7th Voyage collection, just looking for some smaller monsters now.

Finally a selection of Spanish guerillas from Front Rank, I still have another couple of dozen of these to paint for Sharp Practice, still looking for a suitable female figure I can use as Sharpe's "La Aguja" - The Needle.
